The August Open Studio Trail
Four Arts Connect Inc members will have their studios open on the Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th this month from 10am to 4pm both days. Visit the studios of Jacky Lowry, Chris Elcoate, Jennifer Eurell, and Chris Blake to watch them at work as they demonstrate their varied and professional skills and view their finished artworks. They produce work in a variety of mediums including textiles and fabric art, watercolours, oils, eco-dyeing, recycled paper making, printing, photography, and pastels. Works of art are also available for sale, and ask about commissions if there is something special you would like an artist to create for you.
These studios are at Landsborough, Harper Creek, Flaxton and Mapleton, and distanced from each other by beautiful scenic drives through the Glass House Mountains and across the Blackall Range. You’ll find opportunities to stop and take photographs, picnic, or visit one of the many coffee shops along this studio trail.

Jacky Lowry – Printmaker
I am a printmaker, and in my studio you can see my special tool, an etching press.
The studio is at the back of the house. Enter the property, and follow the long driveway through a tunnel of rainforest, past paddocks to the house. Park in the designated area, and walk 50 m past the front of the house, enjoying the big trees, stag horns, and views to the Mary River as you go. Turn right past the house and enter my studio through the studio verandah.
There is plenty of parking, and there is room for a small bus by the shed, with an 80 m walk to the studio.

Chris Blake – Artist
The Blake studio was designed and built by Chris as a studio/gallery/ home in 2000 but being an owner builder it was a few years before it was opened. Built on an acre property it has a circular driveway [come in on the second entry] and it has ample parking for 6 cars or a couple of mini buses [being a dead end street there is safe parking on the road also]. The house set on stumps is of a loft home design with the main Gallery occupying the ground floor. The studio upstairs overlooks the pond-age area from the rear balcony and is a mecca for wildlife [birds and water dragons]. The garden has been planted over the years with callistemon and other flowering scrubs and trees to create a garden for wildlife. There is as yet no wheelchair access.

Christine Elcoate – Artist
Christine Elcoate’s friend Raine modelling some wearable art in her newly set up back yard studio in Flaxton. After parking in the street go down the left hand side of the house to find the Flying Carp studio at the end of the pathway.

Jennifer Eurell – Artist
My home is on the escarpment at Mapleton, looking out to the sea. It is within easy walking distance from the village of Mapleton with it’s pub and coffee shops; and Mapleton Falls and Mapleton National Park are only a 5 minutes’ drive away. My studio is under the house and can be accessed via the glass front doors of the studio or through the garage. There is on-street parking (or inside the property if there is room), but be wary of the Post Office Road/Warruga Street intersection in front of the house as the locals are fond of turning there.
