I work in abstract, not abstracted, just pure colour, line, shape, texture, and their interactions. I'm not interested in telling a story, or put meaning into a work. Pure abstract is a never ending subject. Lately I have also been doing figurative work and still life.
Born in the Netherlands, |I migrated to Sydney in 1966 when I was 18. Always wanting to do painting, but always too busy otherwise i.e. soldier, warfie, green grocer, orchardist, drain layer, and builder. But in the 70's, when I finished up in New Zealand and ceramics was at a high I became a salt glazed potter, using sump-oil thinned with a little diesel. Using that polluting art form became unfashionable and in 2000 we moved back to Australia. In Peachester, we built our present home with an upstairs and separate shed studios and started painting abstract and the figure, but lately have ventured in most other fields except landscape painting. I love abstract, and my main influences there are Mondrian, Klee, and Pollock. The impressionists at large and in particular Gauguin, Van Gogh, Shiele, I look to in other fields. Those and the beautiful peaceful setting we have and the lifetime experiences are a source of limitless inspiration.
