Arts Connect Inc. is a membership driven organization that is based in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. Our members are drawn from many areas and have a diverse range of skills and experience across many art forms. New members are always welcome.
In 2007 the present organization evolved from the ashes of ‘Montville Community Arts’. A strong bond with the Montville/ Flaxton/ Mapleton community still exists but is balanced by many members from Maleny, Witta, Connondale, Beerwah and beyond. There are no geographical boundaries to membership.
The first initiative was ‘Artists on the Green’, a monthly art markets on the Montville Village Green commencing in 2008 and supported by Sunshine Coast Council’s Grant Scheme through a professional website development. This event has now lapsed due to heavy rain seasons and other ‘market’ competition.
Two annual ACI events are ‘Sculpture on the Edge’ and ‘Open Studios’.
Sculpture on the Edge (SOTE) was initially a collaboration with Maleny Garden Clubs’ Open Gardens Festival in 2010. That success led to a stand-alone event in 2011, sponsored by the Spicer’s Group. Initially works were installed at Spicer’s Clovelly, Montville, but since 2012 work has been displayed in the grounds of Spicer’s Tamarind Retreat, Maleny. For current information about this project please visit our new Sculpture on the Edge website.
Our ‘Open Studio’ program was originally designed to complement the SC Hinterland ‘Festival of Walks 2010’. Further development has seen this program well supported by the community since 2011.Open Studios is on hold to restructure and assess the future direction of the program.
Members Exhibitions are held regularly at hinterland galleries.
We receive major funding support from Sunshine Coast Regional Council and RADF (including Arts Queensland). We enjoy a valuable partnership with Sunshine Coast Council and we appreciate great support and sponsorship from many local businesses and organizations.
But most of all we thank the artists who are ACI members, and all members of our communities who support us.
