Chris Blake has been painting for over thirty years. He is a multi-award winning artist, working in pastels, oils, acrylics and pen and wash, and is a master pastellist with the Pastel Society of Australia.

His favourite subjects include outback, marine and town scenes. His style is vibrant impressionist. Whatever he does, it is usually exciting and dramatic. Chris could be described as a tonal colourist. In his paintings, he pushes tones to their dark and light extremes while also layering colour to create intensity and depth.

Chris is also a dynamic tutor and demonstrator, giving speedy and informative demonstrations of technique, while at the same time adding spice with interesting, humorous stories and anecdotes. He teaches classes on Tuesday mornings in his own studio and ensures that his students learn as much as they can while still having a lot of fun.
Chris has collaborated with Unison Pastels, UK, to develop the Blake Outback sets of pastels. His work is represented in a number of private collections in Australia and overseas. It can be seen on the website , on his facebook page, ‘The Blake Studio’, and at his own studio in Landsborough by appointment (07 5439 9558).

More About Me

I moved to Queensland in 1990 and started teaching at the Caloundra Learning Coop between 1992 to 1998. I joined the Pastel Society of Australia in 2001 and became a master pastellist in 2004. My studio in Graham Drive was opened in 2012.

Since moving to Queensland, I have been a productive artist and have won many awards, some being the Maleny art award, the Hervey Bay open award, the open section and landscape section of the Pastel Society winter show (twice), and two years finalist at the Kenilworth art prize.

I have traveled throughout Australia and the UK as an art tutor. In 2018, I already have workshops planned with the Summer Art Experience, Canberra (January 8-12th) and the Fay Boyd Art Fine Art School in Grafton (April 15 – 19th) I will also be combining with Louise Corke from the Gold Coast to lead a European Art Adventure to Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Cornwall and France in June and July. Details are available on the website.

Groups can contact me to arrange for workshops or individuals are welcome to join my classes in my studio. E-books containing process photos and step-by-step instructions of my art are also available from my website, I make and sell my uniquely designed Blake Easel, and Unison Pastels produce a Blake Landscape set of pastels.
