Dean Rusling Sculptures

Dean was born in New Zealand. He has owned and operated Chalkos Art foundry since its beginnings back in 2000 and is presently still heavily involved in casting works in bronze, for other reputable Sculptors, Australia wide, being limited gallery standard editions to one-off life size monuments for clients/sculptors.

Dean has himself been sculpting now for approximately 12 years but most times has left his work on the shelf to make sure his clients’ work at the foundry was produced before his, however this has changed and he has made himself a client at Chalkos so he can now start to produce more work which is always in demand. The foundry has been at capacity since pre-covid times but a shift in his thoughts and attitude has seen him now wanting to produce new works and more of them.

Dean’s basic concentration and love for sculpture is marine life, with the odd abstract for fun sometimes. He can boast sales to Scotland (3 major pieces different buyers), Iowa USA, and worldwide. He has the odd small commission for clients. He is currently represented by 3 galleries in Queensland and has not sought more galleries because of high sales and a problem with supply, which is now changing with more of the editions cast and new work to be produced in 2024.

Dean has Major prizes for his sculptures at The Ekka, Queensland Sculptors Society’s many exhibitions, a finalist at Sculpture on the Edge, and has also had two exhibitions at his current galleries.

Dean left school when he was 15. Pursuing an apprenticeship in radio and electronics, he also did construction, sales, heavy-vehicle operation, farm work, industrial foundries and eventually starting Chalkos Art Foundry, so has had no formal training, other than what he considers a God given talent and has been self-taught.

Dean has gained himself collectors of his fine art and now feels it’s time to pursue some of his own ambitions in sculpting and looks forward to showing the people what he is capable of.
