PAINTING, PRINTMAKING
Elisabeth is a contemporary painter and printmaker. She is known for her metaphorical stories which often feature birds or other animals together with realistic objects to depict an imaginative situation about human nature.

I am also an intaglio printmaker. Primarily I work with copper etchings.

More About You
My background is in education and in the course of my teaching career I never hesitated to accept very remote teaching positions. This allowed me to work in very beautiful and isolated areas of Australia, including the Simpson Desert and Kakadu National Park. The pure immensity of our land is something that is very dear to me and this has always influenced my use of space and vastness in my works.
In the early years of my career I was an urban artist. My work was about how people lived. I focused on humble workers cottages and classic corner shops and milk bars which are important icons in our Australian urban landscape.
Years later my genre changed when we moved to an outlying run-down beach shack beside the ocean. I simply started looking at nature and studied the animals which surrounded me. I had such admiration for what I saw and felt, that I embraced the beautiful and funny creatures of nature and now they are often the ‘lead actors’ of my visual stories.
