Kym Barrett lives in SE Queensland, and has always preferred to be surrounded by bushland or mountains.  She uses a range of mixed media to create abstract paintings and drawings that aim to suggest aspects of landscape, imbued with a sense of depth and mystery … that reveal both surface and history.

Kym graduated in Fine Arts in 1975 from the Brisbane College of Art and has held 17 solo exhibitions.  Her paintings are contained in private collections in Australia, NZ, USA, Canada and Scotland and in several Queensland public collections.  Her work is represented in the publication, Cold Wax Medium…Techniques, Concepts and Conversations.

Kym won the 2019 BENDIGO BANK award, du Rietz Art Awards and was a FINALIST in the 2018 and 2019 Moreton Bay Art Awards, 2018 Stanthorpe Art Prize, 2018 Pro Hart Outback Art Prize. She won the 2016 Rush OPEN AWARD, the Kenilworth PAINTING PRIZE 2014 and was a finalist in JADA 2014.
