CERAMICS

Fleur is a ceramic artist based in the Maleny Hinterland on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, where she creates distinctive handmade pieces from her recently established studio. Currently studying a Diploma of Visual Arts, Fleur brings over 25 years of connection to clay to her evolving practice.

Working across both wheel-thrown and hand-built ceramics, Fleur is particularly drawn to the quiet beauty of wheel-thrown forms. Her pieces balance functionality with individuality—no two are exactly alike. Subtle variations in shape, glaze, and surface give each work its own character, making every piece feel personal and considered.

Inspired by the natural surroundings of the hinterland, Fleur embraces experimentation in her glazing, often layering finishes to create depth, movement, and unexpected results. This process-led approach means her work carries a sense of spontaneity while remaining refined and timeless.

More About You

Creating with Clay has been Fleur’s passion after attending a pottery class in Seattle USA in 1998. She continued learning about ceramics in the UK and then after coming back to Brisbane, she and her husband moved to the beautiful Maleny hinterland and finally set up a studio totally dedicated to her creativity. They are both passionate about motorbikes which provided a great subject for one of Fleur’s Visual Arts assignments.

She is always finding inspiration through their love of travel which has taken them on many adventures. Having opened her studio less than a year ago, Fleur is excited to be part of Open Studio and looks forward to welcoming visitors into her creative “happy place.”
