More About You

Born in Rockhampton, Queensland, Janelle Anderson is a professional artist whose creative journey began in childhood, sketching from books, magazines, and nature. Originally trained as a hairdresser, her fascination with colour evolved into a serious pursuit of art. She later completed a Certificate in Graphic Design and a Certificate in Art History, while attending numerous workshops and courses. A pivotal moment came when she undertook a 12-month Mastery Program at The Milan Art Institute, an experience that transformed her practice and set her on the path to becoming a full-time artist. Janelle, who began her career later in life, embraces the philosophy that it is never too late to follow one’s dreams and hopes to inspire others with her story.

Janelle describes her work as “a splash of joy, with a dash of mischief.” She creates in an abstract realism style, layering mixed media with directional mark-making to add movement and playfulness. “My wish is to brighten lives through art that entertains, uplifts, and inspires—proving that joy, laughter, and a dash of mischief belong at the very heart of human connection,” she explains. The result is vibrant, expressive works that radiate energy, curiosity, and delight.

Now living in Maleny in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, Janelle draws inspiration from both her picturesque surroundings and the region’s vibrant arts community. From her studio overlooking the Glass House Mountains, she continues to expand her body of work while also finding joy in family life with her husband, four sons, and ten grandchildren. Looking to the future, she hopes to travel further, gather new inspiration, and one day publish a colourful art book celebrating her unique characters and style.
