I work with reclaimed timber, where I take my lead from the material itself; its grain, its history, and the beauty already sitting inside it. I don’t add to it, I cut back, and what’s left is a form that shifts as you move around it and rewards a closer look.
Most of the timber I use is irregular or salvaged, so the whole practice comes down to the same thing: bringing out what’s already in the wood rather than forcing something onto it.
I also create functional pieces, mostly lighting, using the same approach. Form and balance still come first, it’s just built for something you use rather while still enjoying the beauty of the piece.
