President’s Report August 2022
Hello fellow artists, friends and supporters,

It’s finally that beautiful sunny part of winter…. Perfect for Sunday lunch! If you’d like to catch up with some of your fellow Arts Connect members, friends and supporters, please come along to our Arty Farty Sunday Lunch Party on 07 August at Flaxton Gardens. There are limited seats so please book in ASAP (see below for details).

Have you got your entries ready?
DISH our ACI members’ exhibition is coming up and it celebrates all things food… vessels, bottles, bowls, cups, plates, napkins, tablecloths, candelabras, vases, still life, eating drinking, having fun… anything to do with sharing food and the joy it brings. It’s a great opportunity for artists to sell their work and a great opportunity for potters, surface designers, painters, sculptors, photographers and printmakers to all show together, united by a theme. You can also sell things like cards, tea towels, prints etc and we encourage people to put in collections, not just single items.

Sculpture on the Edge is now taking entries and there is a generous $10,000 prize donated by our host, Flaxton Gardens, for the overall winner. Now that we have the opportunity to exhibit both indoors and outdoors, the possibilities are almost endless. We hope to see a huge variety in the works shown. From textiles, paper, ceramics and finely blown glass to marble, bronze, brass and timber…… recycled, reclaimed….. reinvented! There will be an opening (19 Nov) and a closing (04 Dec) this year so book them into your diaries. It’s going to be sensational!! We will also be looking for volunteers to greet guests. This is actually really fun and I have really enjoyed this ‘duty’ during the past two years’ exhibitions. I have met so many interesting people, made many new friends and obviously visitors really love meeting the artists whose work is on display.

Our colleagues running the Rangebow Festival have been working really hard to create something magical and really creative for everyone to enjoy. It will be running across the Hinterland from 10-13 August. There are all sorts of workshops, showcases and extravaganzas to keep you entertained so check out what’s on offer.

If you happen to be adventuring out west, you might be in the right spot to enjoy Sculptures Outback, in Roma. It will open on 13 August and run until 22 October. Last year Robyn Muche and I had the great pleasure of being the inaugural judges and we had a blast. It’s definitely worth a visit if you’re passing that way.

Wishing you a great month ahead,
and I hope to see you soon.
With best wishes,
Gretchen.
