I began studying to become a ceramic artist in 1979. My initial interests were hand building and alternate 'primitive' firings.
Despite following many pathways my work now is little changed. My work is either thrown, slip cast or hand-built. My choice of clay is porcelain or terracotta.
My present work is Raku-fired, perhaps with metallic lustres; simple shapes with coloured slips and mid-fired; terracotta shapes & vessels for the garden.
My shapes are minimalist My glazing techniques simple. I decorate using coloured slips, carving or airbrushing metallic oxides.
I trained at Kelvin Grove CAE, working full time in my studio as a professional ceramicist from 1984 -1990. I taught at South Bank TAFE from 1990-1996, decreasing my time in the studio.
During those years I entered many competitions and participated in many joint exhibitions and solo shows throughout Qld and NSW. I was active in arts prganisation, serving on the Board of Craft Qld, (1980s) and Fusions (1990s). I was President of both organidations. I worked on Arts Advisory Committees for several TAFE Colleges and worked on a team developing Ceramic Curriculum modules.
I moved to Montville 2002, jointly set up Montville Community Arts in 2014 which in 2008 further developed into Arts Connect Inc. I was the founding President, continuing to support and mentor incoming presidents (Craft Qld is is now 'ARTISAN; and FUSIONS now known as Ceramic Arts Qld)
