Anna Hanssen is a visual artist based on the beautiful Sunshine Coast. Her art practice is influenced by a reverence for the natural world and the interconnectedness of life. She is interested in the environment and has chosen to live more simply and sustainably, often using recycled materials in her work. Anna aims to create harmony in life and with her surroundings. Her artwork is often described as having a quiet, meditative quality achieved through repetition, minimalism, and abstraction. She also finds the process of hand stitching to be a form of meditation due to its slow and repetitive nature. Emotions are evoked in her artwork through colour and the use of materials that reflect light, such as silk.

Anna was born in northern New South Wales and holds a Bachelor of Fine Art from the University of Tasmania. She is a multi-media artist who works in textiles, collage, and painting. In addition to participating in numerous group art exhibitions, she has diverse experience working in a museum and as a craft teacher. In a previous career, she worked as a horticulturist and bush regenerator.
