By constructing anatomies of recycled materials, Jodi Casey creates striking sculptures that characterise the iconic imagery and animalia native to her residency on the Sunshine Coast. Cleverly and imaginatively symbolising a duality of her internal and external landscapes, her works are initiated by a sourced image of her subject, representative of the personal perspective and facet she wishes to portray.
Her creative process is truly inaugurated upon the selection of locally sourced, off-cut timber she makes central to the structure. The appointed timber, and the method in which it is dried and prepared, is pivotal to the work’s frame and form, as well as its colourised and textural appearance. The wood’s final exterior is frequently evocative of the rich and earthly terrain her subjects occupy and inhabit.
Whilst additional support mechanisms are constructed out of supplementary timber and reconstituted metal, the body is assembled from a range of vintage jewellery, oxidize metal and discarded implements, supplied from Jodi’s extensive and ever-expanding collection. What results are depictions of beauty and enchantment, as delicate as they are enduring.

I create one-of-a-kind sculptures that tell intimate stories through repurposed heirlooms, forgotten objects, and well-loved curiosities.
My non-commissioned pieces are at the heart of my practice; each work is entirely unique, shaped by the history embedded in the materials themselves and the emotions they quietly carry. Jewellery, tools, cutlery, trinkets, and op-shop finds are reimagined into expressive sculptures that celebrate memory, nostalgia, and connection.
Inspired by wildlife and the natural beauty of the Sunshine Coast, my work blends rustic charm with playful whimsy. I gravitate to materials that have lived a life before they reach my hands, allowing their imperfections and past stories to guide the final form. Every piece is an exploration of sentiment and a way of honouring what may have otherwise been forgotten and giving it new meaning.
Alongside my personal body of work, I also create commissioned sculptures, collaborating closely with clients to transform their cherished belongings into artworks that reflect family, legacy, and love. I am proud to have been a Sculpture on the Edge finalist for the past five consecutive years, an experience that continues to inspire and challenge my creative practice. Whether personal or commissioned, each sculpture is a joyful fusion of imagination, craftsmanship, and emotional connection.
