PAINTING, DRAWING

An award-winning artist, Libby’s practice focuses on contemporary landscape painting. Four generations of watercolour painting inform her work and she is passionate at pushing boundaries in the medium. Her loose, luscious washes capture expressive and rich encounters with the landscape when she paints ‘plein air’. She seeks to capture the sensory experience of place and uses line to represent bird song and their visual movements. Libby won the Annie Tan Memorial Watercolour Award (Queensland Regional Art Awards) and has been finalist in multiple local and national awards. Libby teaches workshops and classes, has been a full-time artist since 2021.

More About Me

I grew up in rural, southern England and studied at Art School in Farnham, Surrey. I have now spent longer here in Australia and live in the most idyllic area – the Sunshine Coast. I love the diversity here on the coast from the rainforests, hinterland to the sea.

I work plein air weekly as to connect with the landscape with multi-senses, and these play an important part of my work – mark making playful lines of bird songs and visual movements throughout. In my studio I continue with studies of banksias and natives, always referencing the sounds from the garden outside.
