More About You

I come from a family of artists and sculpture has always been part of my life. My father was a sculpture and painter and one of the original “Social Realists” in Melbourne during the 1940s.

I began working with clay in 1987 while my children were young. I attended Southbank Tafe for many years completing a Certificate course then a Diploma in Ceramics. In the ensuing years I returned to full time work as a paralegal and a trainer in Microsoft and taught ceramic classes in my Brisbane studio for ten years before attending Griffith University full time in 2010, completing a Fine Arts degree in 2012 majoring in sculpture and jewellery and small objects. Due to the effects of back surgery I completely changed my focus from ceramics to small sculpture and jewellery after moving to the Sunshine Coast in 2013.

I have exhibited work since 1992 in many joint exhibitions and have had two solo exhibitions at Noosa Regional Gallery and Eumundi.

My sculptural work is informed by social justice and environmental issues and illustrates a variety of problems facing our world. I enjoy using a degree of humour in my sculpture which assists in engaging the viewer.

My main arts practice is making silver jewellery for sale. This is technically demanding and exacting and requires planning and training. Creating sculpture is something can be much more enjoyable and spontaneous in the process.
