PRINTMAKER

Sylvia Mekhitarian is a contemporary visual artist majored in printmaking. Her university training in visual arts is practised from the traditional methods to experimental, she has exhibited nationally and internationally.

Sylvia like to work with her images spontaneously by making the mark and drawing directly onto the stone, to create her image she uses lithography crayons and tusche. These drawings reflect how she sees the world in which she lives. During her artistic practice she worked with a variety of materials and her major area in printmaking was Intaglio, using copper plates, layering and aquatinting. Currently Sylvia is working with stone Lithography.

More About Me

Sylvia was born in Egypt of Armenian parents. Her father worked in Egypt, London and Sydney while her schooling was spent in England. Sylvia married and had her own family, and lived in Newport NSW Australia. City life took a turn to country living, the family lived in an alternative life style. Sylvia started teaching high school in Byron shire, Tweed shire and rural areas of NSW, TAS & QLD. She now lives in the Blackall Range area of Qld.
