President’s Report September 2022

Hello fellow artists, friends and supporters,
Spring is here and our upcoming members’ exhibition, DISH, is upon us, please feel free to join us this weekend for the opening at Owen Cavanagh’s new Gallery Studio 53 Art and Surf Culture in Coolum (details below including RSVP).

We welcome new members to the committee: Julie Churchward is our new treasurer, Isabel Hooper is our assistant treasurer and Rob Natoli has joined our team.

Welcome and thank you!

Sculpture on the Edge (SOTE) plans are going well and we are very excited to bring this event to the Sunshine Coast in our new venue, Flaxton Gardens, this year. We had literally hundreds of entries from as far afield as Spain and Victoria. A huge thanks must go to our team of curators who were very diligent in their task of going through each and every entry to put together this year’s exhibition: Robyn Muche, Ferre De Deyne and Wayne Malkin. We are immensely grateful for your time, expertise, and enthusiasm.

SOTE dates: There will be an Opening night on the Saturday 19th November, an incredible Sculpted dinner on Saturday 26th November and a Closing party on Sunday the 04th December. There will also be a string of workshops and satellite events, which will really add depth to the program and also hopefully maximise the benefit to the local community that so many visitors can bring. We do need volunteers to help with certain aspects of this event, so if you would like to be a part of the planning team for SOTE please email Jen secretary@artsconnectinc.com.au

Open Studios planning is underway!
Please pencil in these approved dates: Friday 17 – Sunday 26 March 2023 and start thinking about your preparation. If you would like to be involved in being part of the planning team please be a part of the team, please email Jen secretary@artsconnectinc.com.au

The ACI AGM and Arty Farty Christmas Party is planned for Wednesday 14 December… Save this date!
Make sure you have renewed your membership so that you are a financial member.

The Sunshine Coast Arts Foundation are seeking to support local artists through their GIFTED campaign. They will also be hosting a special presentation by Kenneth Watkins AM, at USC this Friday evening (see below for details).
Wishing you a great month ahead,
and I hope to see you soon.

With best wishes,
Gretchen.
